Tips for Online Screening & Profiling

Personal Observation

Personal observation is often called "Recruiting By Walking Around." This means you can do it any time, any where — you can make it part of each day.

Here's what to do...

  1. Make sure your management team understands the Candidate Profile that fits your agency. This will help them in succeed with their observation methods.

  2. Use the POP Screen as the first step in your candidate screening process before you
spend time with candidates that don't fit.

  3. Role play with your sales management team on how to approach potential candidates and invite them to take the POP Screen. (This is a very important step in your process.)

  4. Provide your team with cards that have the correct address for potential candidates to go to for screening.

  5. Make sure when you meet people socially, you get them to talk about themselves, not you.

  6. Read local newspapers and magazines daily. Note promotions, hiring, weddings, etc. Instead of using a sales approach with them, present them with career opportunities.

  7. When attending civic meetings or going out socially, try to identify potentially "job-disturbable" candidates.

  8. Stay active in your local insurance community. Remember experienced producers become "job-disturbable" for many reasons.

  9. Carry a mini-dictaphone with which to make notes on prospective candidates.

  10. Provide your team with a consistent process of keeping in touch with potential candidates you meet.

  11. Invite them to your firm for a personal introduction to your way of doing business.

  12. Remember that the key to personal observation is to do it every day!

Advantages to you include:

  • The screen is available online 24/7 to manage your flow of candidates.

  • You have added another source of proven recruiting strategies to your
    flow of candidates.

  • Online 24/7, for managing large numbers of targeted recruits.

  • Your process of personal observation for potential candidates is seamless.

  • You can eliminate other unproductive recruiting sources from your strategies.
